Access

Access criteria:

According to the Swedish Sami Parliament Act (1992:1433), a Saami is someone who considers him/herself a Saami AND has (had) Saami as a language at home or who has a parent/grandparent with Saami as a language at home or who has a parent who was included in the electoral register for the Sami Parliament; in this Act, the term “Saami language” indicates any of the various Saami languages.

For the purpose of defining membership in specifically the Pite Saami community, the same definition should be applied but with the restriction that the defining language is specifically Pite Saami; Furthermore, the stipulation concerning inclusion in the electoral register should not be considered relevant; as a result, any Saami with a Saami background other than Pite Saami is considered a research community member and not a language community member.
