The data in this deposit was collected in the San Juan Quiahije municipality of Oaxaca, Mexico between 2012 and 2015. Participants are: (1) speakers of the San Juan Quiahije variety of Western Highland Chatino, and (2) signers of the emerging language, San Juan Quiahije Chatino Sign Language. Some participants are users of one of these languages exclusively; others use some combination of spoken language(s) (including Spanish, the colonial language in the region) and signed language.
